Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan extended his congratulations to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after her administration set a new record for longevity in the Italian Republic’s history. Meloni’s government has now been in office for 1,413 consecutive days, surpassing the previous record of 1,412 days held by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s second term from 2001 to 2005. Erdoğan lauded Meloni’s achievement and expressed optimism about the continued deepening of cooperation and solidarity between Türkiye and Italy.

Since taking office in October 2022 as Italy’s first female prime minister, Meloni has forged a strong relationship with Erdoğan. The two leaders have engaged in regular dialogues concerning bilateral and regional issues, focusing on expanding collaboration in various sectors. Their efforts have seen Türkiye and Italy enhance cooperation in trade, investment, defense, energy, and migration, while also coordinating on regional matters such as the situations in Libya and Ukraine.

In April 2025, Erdoğan and Meloni co-chaired the fourth Türkiye-Italy Intergovernmental Summit held in Rome. During the summit, several agreements were signed to bolster the strategic and economic ties between the two nations. This event underscored their shared commitment to strengthening partnerships and addressing common challenges in the international arena.

Most recently, the two leaders met during the NATO summit in Ankara in July, where they reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing trade relations, mutual investments, and defense cooperation. These discussions further cemented the ongoing partnership between Türkiye and Italy, highlighting both countries’ dedication to working together in strategic sectors to address global and regional concerns.
